BECERRA SMILES LIKE NEWSOM 2.0; HILTON BROUGHT THE RECEIPT

Debate stage, blue-state costumes, Republican reality check

Cartoon California debate: a smiling blue suit in front of tents, the other man holding a giant receipt

Xavier Becerra practices the Newsom smirk while Steve Hilton talks taxes, tents, and Trump-era common sense. Mail ballots hit soon. California can keep the looney franchise or hire an adult.

LOS ANGELES — The photo package from Wednesday’s governor debate is the whole California Democratic brand in one freeze-frame: Xavier Becerra, Gavin Newsom’s spiritual understudy, chin up like the state isn’t a high-tax homeless museum. Across from him: Republican Steve Hilton, the only grown-up on the stage willing to say out loud what every working Californian already knows — the blue machine broke the bill, broke the streets, and broke the middle class.

Becerra’s pitch is more of the same with better lighting. Career Democrat. Biden’s HHS secretary. California AG. Thirty-five years on the government teat. His slogan energy is “no training wheels” — cute line from a guy whose party trained California into tents, open-border chaos, and household costs that punish anybody who still works. He promises to “push back against Trump” because when your product is failure, the only ad buy left is orange-man panic.

Hilton showed up with conservative common sense: taxes, immigration, affordability, the homeless industrial complex. He’s trying to do what California hasn’t done since Arnold — elect a Republican governor who treats taxpayers like humans instead of ATMs for looney liberal NGOs. Polls still favor Becerra because the media choir and the mail-ballot machine are a stacked deck. FNN prints the photo anyway. One man sells continuity of collapse. The other sells a hard right turn back to order, work, and borders that mean something.

Vote Hilton. Or keep Becerra and Newsom’s sequel. Your sidewalks already voted.
